Purpose Of Drill:
To work on 2 on 1's, while also forcing the defenseman to receive and give a pass while maintaining speed as he/she pivots around a cone to start the drill.
Drill Components:
pucks, 2 cones
Drill Steps:
| 1 |
Play initiates (out of both ends simultaneously) with a pass from one of the forwards at the front of the line, to the defenseman at the front of his/her line. |
| 2 |
Defenseman returns the pass to one of the forwards as they accelerate up ice, and then plays the resulting 2 on 1. Upon completion of the 2 on 1, the players go to the lines at the opposite end of the rink. |
Coaching Notes:
Make sure to adjust the lines/cones to make sure the timing is correct for a competitive 2 on 1. Also, make sure the passes to start the drill are tape to tape, crisp passes.
Player Notes:
Make sure to make crisp passes to start the drill. Game speed on the 2 on 1.
Parent Notes:
This drill is a basic 2 on 1, but adds the challenge for the defenseman of receiving and delivering a good pass while starting the drill with a pivot around the cone.
